CHP Traffic Stop Leads to Seizure of 50,000 Fentanyl Pills

On August 7, 2025, at approximately 6:50 p.m., a California Highway Patrol (CHP) officer observed a white Nissan Altima with no license plates traveling southbound on Interstate 5, just north of Walnut Grove Road. The vehicle was following another car too closely—about two car lengths—and was traveling at 79 mph in a 70 mph zone. CHP officers conducted a traffic stop and contacted the driver, identified as Christopher Perez. Perez stated he had traveled from Los Angeles to sell his vehicle in the area and planned to return home via rideshare.

A CHP K9 conducted an open-air sniff of the vehicle and alerted to the presence of narcotics. During a search, officers observed several interior panels with marks indicating they had recently been removed, as well as a black pry bar between the driver’s seat and center console.

In the trunk, officers located five plastic bags containing blue M30 pills. The pills—approximately 50,000 in total—were determined to be counterfeit oxycodone containing fentanyl.

Perez was arrested and booked into the San Joaquin County Jail. He is currently charged with:

• HS 11352 – Transportation for sale of fentanyl
• HS 11351 – Possession of fentanyl for sale

• HS 11370.4(c)(1)(E) – Possession of fentanyl for sale in excess of four kilograms in weight

Perez was arraigned today, with bail set at $75,000. His next court date is scheduled for August 20, 2025, in Department 8C.
San Joaquin County District Attorney Ron Freitas stated:
"Fentanyl is a deadly poison that continues to take lives in our community. This seizure represents thousands of potentially fatal doses that will never make it to our streets. My office will continue working alongside our law enforcement partners to hold traffickers accountable and protect San Joaquin County families from this deadly epidemic."

The San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office remains committed to prosecuting those who traffic dangerous narcotics and to supporting efforts that keep our communities safe.

Thank you to K9 Hanks and the CHP - Valley Division for the great work.
