Four Defendants Arraigned in Methamphetamine Trafficking Case

Four individuals were arraigned today in San Joaquin County Superior Court following their arrest earlier this week, when deputies discovered nearly 11 pounds of methamphetamine during a traffic stop in Tracy.

On August 26, 2025, San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Deputies conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 580 near Chrisman Road after observing a gold Hyundai Sonata commit multiple traffic violations. During the investigation, K9 Rango alerted to the odor of narcotics inside the vehicle. A search revealed a backpack concealed in the trunk containing ten vacuum-sealed packages of methamphetamine, weighing a total of 4,945.8 grams (10.9 pounds).

Inside the vehicle were Miguel Angel Gomez Ruiz (29), Israel Lopez (38), Guillermina Perez Torrez (31), and Adilene Carrillo (32), all residents of Los Angeles. Deputies also discovered a five-month-old infant inside the vehicle. Child Protective Services responded and placed the child into protective care.

All four defendants have been charged with multiple felony offenses, including:

• Possession of a controlled substance for sale (Health & Safety Code §11378)
• Transportation of a controlled substance for sale (Health & Safety Code §11379(b))
• Child endangerment (Penal Code §273a(a))
  

In addition, prosecutors filed an enhancement for possession of more than four kilograms of methamphetamine.

The defendants were arraigned in San Joaquin County Superior Court, Manteca Branch, on August 28, 2025. Bail was set at $200,000 each, with further hearings scheduled for September 9, 2025, at 8:30 a.m. in Department M1.

District Attorney Ron Freitas issued the following statement:

“Endangering a baby while trafficking nearly 11 pounds of methamphetamine is unacceptable. My office will pursue this case to the fullest extent of the law. San Joaquin County families and children deserve to know that we are committed to protecting their safety and holding drug traffickers accountable.”

District Attorney Freitas also commends the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office and K9 Rango for their work in safely intercepting the narcotics and protecting the community.
