San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office Secures Permanent Removal of Child Predator from Stockton Streets
District Attorney Ron Freitas announces The San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office has successfully secured a triple life sentence against Eugenio Reyes, ensuring he never returns to the community he preyed upon. In Department 6D, the defendant was sentenced to three consecutive terms of Life Without the Possibility of Parole after prosecutors proved the defendant’s crimes constituted separate, predatory acts.
The conviction follows a 2024 trial regarding a harrowing incident that began late on Christmas night. Reyes, a stranger to the victim, lured an 11-year-old girl into his vehicle near her home. After being transported to his residence and subjected to multiple sexual assaults, the child heroically escaped and fled through an unfamiliar neighborhood until a Good Samaritan intervened and contacted law enforcement.
Through the expert litigation of DDA Carrie Lawrence, the San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office successfully argued that the assaults occurred on “separate occasions” within the meaning of Penal Code section 667.61(d). This critical legal distinction mandated the maximum consecutive sentencing.
"This defendant didn't just steal a child's innocence; he hunted it on Christmas night," said District Attorney Ron Freitas. "Because of the survivor's incredible bravery and the work of DDA Carrie Lawrence, we have ensured this predator’s new home is a prison cell. He will never see another Christmas at home, because he will never leave prison."
The District Attorney’s Office extends its deepest gratitude to DDA Carrie Lawrence for her masterful prosecution and to Detective Richard Keiser of the Stockton Police Department for his investigative leadership. This conviction was built on critical DNA evidence analyzed by the California Department of Justice and the expertise of the sexual assault nurse examiner. We also recognize Jessica Vanover from the Victim Witness Unit for her tireless support of the survivor and her family throughout this lengthy process.
