Jamaraqui Burks Pleads Guilty to Gross Vehicular Manslaughter in Fatal Delta College Collision

San Joaquin County District Attorney Ron Freitas announced that Jamaraqui Burks has entered a guilty plea regarding the tragic October 2024 collision that claimed the life of Jazmine Floris on the San Joaquin Delta College campus.

On October 24, 2024, at approximately 6:28 p.m., Stockton Police responded to a vehicle vs. pedestrian collision at Pacific and W. Yokuts Avenues. Witnesses and city camera footage revealed Burks was driving a 2018 Tesla Model X at a high rate of speed (90MPH), weaving through traffic while appearing to race a Dodge Challenger. After striking a Toyota Camry, Burks lost control, careened onto the Delta College campus, and struck Jazmine Floris, who was walking a dog at the time. Floris was transported to San Joaquin General Hospital and was later pronounced dead.

Burks fled the scene on foot through the campus but was quickly apprehended by Delta College Police Department officers.

“This plea delivers accountability for a reckless act that tragically ended a young life and devastated a family,” said District Attorney Ron Freitas. “While no outcome can restore what was lost, this resolution provides closure without the added burden of a trial. My office will continue to hold those who drive dangerously accountable to protect our community and prevent future tragedies.”

Legal Resolution:

  • Charge: Guilty to Penal Code section 192(c)(1), Vehicular Manslaughter with Gross Negligence.
  • Sentence: Burks will receive the upper term of six years in state prison.

District Attorney Freitas extends his deepest gratitude to Deputy District Attorney Cameron Sheron for the successful prosecution of this case. Recognition is also given to Victim Witness advocate Isabella Cruz, the Stockton Police Department and the Delta College Police Department for their swift response and thorough investigation.
