San Joaquin County District Attorney Ron Freitas announced yesterday that defendant Joseph Marroquin was convicted of multiple felony charges, including possession of a stolen vehicle and identity theft involving more than ten victims.
On July 15, 2025, Marroquin was stopped by the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office during a traffic violation while driving a stolen Chevrolet Camaro. During the stop, deputies also located a large quantity of stolen mail and personal identifying information belonging to more than thirty individuals inside the vehicle.
During the investigation, San Joaquin County Sheriff Detective Rocky Bulen and Deputy District Attorney Angel Pineda worked diligently to identify victims and gather sufficient evidence to prove the felony identity theft charges. Of the more than thirty victims whose personal information was found, eleven were able to testify that they did not permit Marroquin to possess their personal information. Many of the victims were elderly or otherwise unable to appear in court.
“This case highlights the collaborative work between law enforcement and our office to protect the community from identity theft and hold repeat offenders accountable,” said District Attorney Ron Freitas. “We thank Detective Bulen and DDA Angel Pineda for their persistence and commitment to justice.”
Marroquin, who has multiple prior strike convictions, is scheduled to be sentenced on December 15, 2025, before Judge Villapudua, where he faces a potential sentence of more than seven years in state prison.
