San Joaquin County District Attorney Ron Freitas announced today that Draygo Peraza has been sentenced to 21 years in state prison, following the recent conviction of Rosantito Castaneda for the January 2022 robbery and murder of Remo Serbo.
The sentencing and conviction bring to a close a violent series of events that began on January 15, 2022. Peraza and Castaneda broke into a home on N. Funston Avenue, assaulting two people and robbing the residence while searching for Serbo. When the pair returned the next day to wait for him, Serbo attempted to drive away to safety. Castaneda and an accomplice opened fire, striking Serbo in the head and killing him.
On April 17, 2026, a San Joaquin County jury found Castaneda guilty of Second-Degree Murder, Residential Robbery, Residential Burglary, and being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm. He is currently pending sentencing.
“This was a calculated act of violence that tragically claimed a life and shattered the peace of a local neighborhood,” said District Attorney Ron Freitas. “Our hearts go out to the Serbo family and the other victims involved. While we cannot undo this tragedy, we can ensure that those who bring this level of violence into our community are removed from our streets for a very long time.”
District Attorney Freitas would like to thank Deputy District Attorney Frank Kooger for his hard work and commitment to seeing this case through to the end. The DA’s Office also recognizes Stockton Police Department Sgt. Irshad Mohammad and District Attorney Investigator Mark Reynolds, whose thorough and persistent investigation was the driving force behind these convictions.
